Sign in with a personal access token

Signing in with the GitHub app is recommended
The app only ever holds the access you approve and can be revoked in one place. A classic token acts with your full permissions and has to be rotated by hand. Use one only when an organization has not approved the app yet. Sign in with GitHub instead.
Classic personal access token
Create one at github.com/settings/tokens with the "repo" and "read:org" scopes. If the organization enforces SAML single sign-on, authorize the token for it after creating it. The token is checked against GitHub and stored encrypted.
